Smallhouse Bio
David Smallhouse began his career as a glassblower in 1980 with an internationally known company in Northern California. He made quality art glass for this studio for over 20 years until his desire to fully express his ideas in glass lead to the opening of his family owned studio in 2001. David has many accomplishments in the field of glass blowing; he was personally asked to create the 1994 inaugural mace for the incoming president of a California State University.
Some of Dave's most popular designs include the "Lapis" in jars, urns and vases. This design and several of his others during this period mimic the stone of their names. The "Pilsner" vase in several different designs and the "Two-tone Floral" which became a signature series. The "Cypriot" series of compotes and vases was influenced by his classical history background.
His work is shown in the permanent collections at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York and the Smithsonian as well as fine galleries across the U.S. David has a degree in Ancient & Classical History. His wife, Hannah holds a degree in Fine Arts. Together with their four children they have created their own studio, a company designed to produce heirloom quality, aesthetically pleasing works of art in glass.
