Marialyce Hawke Collections & Bio
Marialyce Hawke Bio
Marialyce Hawke is a northern California
cameo-cut glass artist whose collectors include Madonna and the Queen of
England. Earning an MFA in sculpture and painting in 1969, her professional
experience in the arts includes painting, sculpting, teaching at both college
and secondary levels, and managing galleries. It is with the startling, finely
etched imaginative designs of her glass pieces that she continues to capture
admiring collectors and build her reputation as a meticulous, gifted and
sought-after artist.
From her Hawke Art Glass Studio in California, she has worked exclusively in
glass for the past twenty years. Her intricate designs are drawn freehand on the
glass and then etched with a sandblaster. She does not flash-etch as many
artists do. Her mastery of the sandblaster is manifest in the delicate
gradations and depth found within each design and her trademark is the very
difficult cut-away top.
Marilayce produces three types of glasswork: finely etched designs in a
multitude of colors on traditional cases, perfume bottles and plates, and
cameos.
Her work is included in the collections of Chrysler Corning, Frank Lloyd Wright
and Stourbridge Museums, the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art, and the
Smithsonian Institute
